Outlaw Fuel Altereds at Lufkin, Texas A Huge Thanks to Chris Graves for the pics in this gallery. What a way to end the season!! Following our disastrous outing at MoKan we definitely had our work cut for us if we were gonna make the show in Lufkin. The chassis had to be cut off and replaced in front of the motor, both spindles and tripods had to be replaced, and at the last minute... I discovered a bent wheel. But we pulled it off and at about 8:30pm on Thursday night (less than a day before leaving) we fired the car in our shop to make sure we were ready to rock and roll (and I wonder why the neighbors love me so much!). The trip down to Lufkin was sooo long! 14+hours of constant rain! But once we got to the track it was nothing but beautiful weather and great racing. PineValley Raceway is an awesome place. The surface was incredible... which gave many of the teams a really challenge. After a quick 7.49 second shake down pass we were ready for qualifying. Our first pass pitted us against the ConeShark, Jim Pruett. Tireshake turned this meeting into a pedal-fest. I know it was only qualifying... but I beat him to the stripe (4.74 @ 153mph vs 4.77 @ 158mph)!! We came back and made some adjustments and headed up for round 2. We found our combination this time. The car left smooth and ran one of our smoothest and quickest 1/8th miles ever at 4.45 seconds with Tappan's TimeWarp in the other lane. The final qualifying order placed us in the 10th position with positions 6 to 10 separated by just .06 seconds! I always say it's better to be lucky than good and this was one of those situations... as several teams had mechanical problems and we got bumped into the show. This pitted us against the ConeShark for first round. After putting a hole shot on Pruett he began to reel me in (4.47 @ 156mph vs 4.23 @ 163). I held him off to about half track and he began to drive around me to take the win and seal up the OFA points championship.
