Outlaw Fuel Altereds at MOKAN 2004 Well... this was our official debut on the Outlaw Fuel Altereds circuit and man what a tough crowd. There was a little trash talkin' (ok actually a lot) going on in the OFA message board in the weeks before the event. And it lead to myself and the ConeShark, Jim Pruett, facing off in the first round of qualifying for some bragging rights and a happy meal. Well... the whole Metal Mafia crew sure tried hard but the Shark ended up with all the bragging rights. Congrats to the Shark for putting a whoppin' 5.71 on the board right off the trailer and impressing the whole crowd. I'm just happy I didn't get tangled up in his chute lines. We were in the show following the first session in the number 8 spot with a 6.11 second run at 170mph. I didn't like the idea of being on the bump and knowing that points leader Bobby Marriot and his Shockwave altered were sitting in the number 11 position and no doubt intended to get in the show. So second round we tuned the hot rod up in hopes of running quicker and still making it down the tricky MoKan track. We pulled up with the ConeShark again and this time managed to make it through the 1000' in 6.03 seconds at 172mph... it kept us in the show until Marriot pulled up! As expected he definitely improved and bumped us from the program by 0.02 seconds!! I won't lie... I was pretty disappointed, but I have to give a ton of credit to all the other teams. It was a tough crowd and I was just glad to be in the mix. So we're headed back to the drawing board and working on a few plans for the ConeShark, Marriot, and the rest of the Outlaw Fuel Altered gang.
